I recently watched a reality style documentary on Kelly Osbourne and her fiance Luke Worrall.An MTV camera crew follow them around in 24 hours, documenting a day in the life of the couple.
This documentary relates to my Day In The Life Of project in which i had to choose a subject a document the day using a series of photographs.
If i were to do the project again using film, this is the documentary that would be most influential to me.
The opening sequence is edgy, young and fun and draws the audience in with colours and textures using photos of the couple and images of things they like to do, for example; modelling, photography, bicycles etc.
You can see the continuum of time throughout the day as a title appears on the bottom counting down the hours until the camera crew are finished filming the couple.
The show isn't scripted or pre-conceived as at one point in the show Kelly rings Luke and the camera doesn't cut straight to him.
Kelly and Luke both have a cameraman with them throughout the day, which allows you to see both sides of their lives at the same time, as there is a limited time period in which the cameras are rolling.
It's really interesting to watch the show as you see what one thinks of the other and how they are together as in such a short amount of time you only see one part of their lives, but it's worth watching.
MTV have also created other 24 hour shows with; Daisy Lowe, Pete Doherty & Sarah Harding.
I think these shows are good as they allow us to follow the celebrities quite closely and intimately which we couldn't do normally.
There is also an episode where we follow a day in the life of the TopShop NYC store - which is a different approach on a day in the life of, documenting a setting rather than a person.
We also see events that wouldn't be splashed across the papers either, like when Luke bought Kelly a custom bicycle that he gave to her on a day out.
It's good to see them acting as they would together when the cameras wouldn't be there, and it's quite a candid show as Kelly speaks of her drug abuse and we see Luke's progression as a model/actor.
I haven't watched the other episodes but i will, and i encourage others to watch them and to gain knowledge of how to produce such a show.
